Access Panel, part of the Identity Panel Suite by SoftwareIDM, will soon include intelligent access recommendations in version 8 (v8). This upcoming feature uses advanced pattern recognition to suggest the most relevant roles or entitlements a user should request—based on their current role, department, or peer group within the organization.
When a user initiates an access request, Access Panel (v8) analyzes identity attributes and compares them to similar users across your organization. The system then suggests entitlements that are commonly assigned to users in comparable positions. This reduces manual effort, improves request accuracy, and supports better alignment between business roles and system permissions.
Note: This feature is part of Access Panel version 8, which has not yet been released at the time of writing.
How Role Suggestions Work
The recommendation engine in Access Panel v8 is built on two core technologies:
-
Criteria Policies: Define inclusion rules based on attributes such as job title, department, or region. These rules govern what resources or roles can be suggested or requested by a user.
-
Vector Search & Role Mining: A similarity-based algorithm evaluates patterns across the user base, identifying frequently granted entitlements for similar identities. This provides the foundation for smart, role-aware suggestions.
Administrators can also use these insights to refine their governance model—discovering new role groupings and improving least-privilege access design.
Why This Matters
Role-based suggestions in Access Panel v8 are designed to streamline access requests, accelerate onboarding, and reduce risk. By automating the decision support process, organizations can deliver access faster while ensuring it aligns with business needs and compliance controls.
